Press Release – Proposal for Local Bodies Election

PTI has been at the forefront of demanding transparency in our electoral process and in continuation of that policy Mr. Iftikhar Hussain (Chief Coordinator of Local Bodies Election Karachi) has proposed that elections must be held through Bio Matrix System. Nadra which has developed the software and also sold this technology to other countries (Bangladesh and Kenya) should be allowed to utilize this technology to enhance voter participation and remove the curse of bogus voting.

At a press conference held by Mr. Iftikhar Hussain at his residence on              he demanded urgent implementation of this proposal for a transparent and fair electoral process. The main advantages of this process would be to reduce the cost of elections and also allow a greater voter participation as it will allow the voters to be able to cast their vote in their constituency from any location.

Mr. Iftikhar Hussain stated all political parties who are in favour of genuine electoral representation will be supportive of this process and also do away with any potential bogus voting. We urge all media, Judiciary, NGO, civil society and International community to urge Pakistan Government to adopt a transparent electoral process.

He further stated that time has now come for genuine democracy to take root in Pakistan and PTI which has strived for rule of law since its inception believes this is a golden opportunity for all those political parties who wish to see democracy flourish in our country to support PTI in adopting this proposal. He added this voting process would revolutionize electoral participation in the country and also expose parties who are against transparent electioneering in the country.
