SWOT Analysis
This is the result of the SWOT analysis that was done in London on Jan 31 2009. We thank all those who participated in this exercise. This has been sent to PTI CEC and we are now going to start drawing up action plans to address our weaknesses and review with the CEC. We will keep you posted of any developments.
PTI STRENGTHS:
- Leadership of Imran Khan: credible, trustworthy, brand name, great achiever with a proven track record, personality, honesty, clear objective, vision, incorruptible.
- PTI is recognised as the 3rd leading political party after PML and PPP.
- The membership of youth and its growing numbers in the party.
- PTI’s transparent and unwavering politics based on solid democratic principles giving hope to people craving for a change.
- PTI’s welfare state concept, its promotion of law and order, education and emphasis on accountability.
- UK coordinators are perceived as hard-working, trustworthy, approachable, credible with clear objectives and ability to deliver.
- Good communication network such as the PTI website in UK
PTI WEAKNESSES:
- Apart from Imran Khan PTI lacks prominent personalities in the party.
- Not enough publicity/fund raising events by the party in Pakistan and UK
- Lack of organisational bodies and representation at grass root level in Pakistan and at regional levels.
- Small base with a minority representation in the Pakistan National Assembly.
- No targets or performance indicators to motivate members.
- Communication needs to improve between members.
- UK representatives should be trained better in communicating PTI’s agenda.
- Urdu website is lacking in order to reach the masses.
PTI OPPORTUNITIES:
- PTI offers fresh and new hope to a cynical public and the disillusionment can be used to our advantage.
- Capitalise on the failure of the major political parties.
- Judicial crisis is an opportunity.
- Increase membership of overseas Pakistanis who are well educated and professional.
- Mobilise and train youth who are keen to support PTI – youth is the future.
- Capitalise on the new US administration.
- Sponsorship and fund raising in the UK.
- Mobilise the public at grass root level.
- Make more use of the independent media to promote PTI and to maximise membership.
- Distribute news letters and leaflets in Pakistan and in the UK mosques.
- Find economical ways to contact people through radio, TV and the internet.
- Promote PTI’s social agenda.
PTI THREATS:
- Internal party politics.
- Succession plan: after Imran Khan who next?
- Breakdown of party unity or cultural clashes.
- Instability, lawlessness bringing back military rule.
- Lack of sufficient funds.
- Feudal system/status quo.
- Cynical public.
- Hijacked opportunities.
- Perception of being a pressure group.
- Unnecessary and unproductive alliances in Pakistan.
- Threats to PTI activities from Western interference.
- Rigging of elections.
- Lack of trained staff on the ground such as at polling stations during elections.
- Lack of education/ignorance.
